Teachers Appreciation: Adopting Our Teachers
by Teresa J. Herbic
Be still and know that I am
God!
Psalm 46:10, NIV
Teachers are forever
influences in children’s lives. They produce a genuine impact on our future. An
African proverb conveys this: “it takes a village to raise a child.” The
importance of a community in molding a young person’s values is irrefutable.
Our history of adopting our
children’s teachers is fact. Both my daughter and son shared the same
kindergarten and second grade teachers, each of whom influenced their creative
and active minds. Our kids also experienced disciplinarians for their third
grade years. We would not have survived those critical years without them.
Then, there were coaches like our daughter’s violin teacher and our son’s
football coach who devoted themselves to shaping character. Each realized our
kids were adopted and the challenges they faced.
Our remarkable music
teacher has been a constant throughout their entire school years, Mrs. Walker.
She gracefully dealt with my son’s emotional issues in and out of the classroom
with pure love and wisdom. She encouraged my daughter’s violin talents and both
of my children’s musical and emotional expressions. The consistency and love
that she has displayed over the years reminds me of the constant unyielding
force of God. As one of His children, Mrs. Walker chose to be a steady, guiding
influence in their lives. As she taught our children all sorts of beautiful
songs and routines, she also educated them about good solid character. Our
family has adopted her forevermore as part of our lives.
Do you have an important
teacher in your family’s history? Let us pray for that special person together
today:
Dear God, Thank You for
still forces in our lives like teachers and coaches
who are an extension of
You. Please bless them and remind them of
Your power, aspiration
and goodness in their lives.
